At Tipo Medellín, we believe every sip can tell a story. We are a company born from a love for our roots, the mountains that shaped us, and the flavors that have been passed down through generations in Colombia and across Latin America.

From this spirit comes Tipo Nela, a drink inspired by panela, nature, and tradition—created to offer a refreshing, natural, and comforting experience. Every can reflects the warmth of our land, the simplicity of real ingredients, and the desire to share the best of our culture.

Our Story

The founders are John and Yuliana. He was born in the United States and is a finance leader in the craft beverage industry. She is a Colombian journalist, proud of her culture and a lover of the fresh, natural flavors of her homeland. They decided to combine their passions, creativity, and love for Latin culture, to create Tipo Nela, a refreshing and comforting beverage with lime and panela as the main ingredients, among other basic components of Latin culture.

Panela is an ingredient with better properties than the refined sugar commonly found in many beverages. As an unrefined product, panela retains micronutrients found in sugarcane, primarily minerals such as potassium, iron, and calcium, and vitamins B and C.

Colombia is the second largest producer and consumer of panela in the world, so the creators of Tipo Nela took advantage of this typical ingredient of Latin culture to offer a natural and vibrant beverage as a refreshing alternative to the current offerings found in the US market.

The result is the creation of Tipo Nela, a unique and refreshing beverage, ideal with or without alcohol during any occasion.
